Cleaning can be the right answer for a blocked filter, but only when the filter is suitable and the fault that caused the blockage has been dealt with.
When cleaning makes sense
We focus on practical cleaning, not fuel-tank additives. If live data and inspection show the filter is blocked but structurally sound, an off-car clean can restore flow and reduce back pressure.
- High differential pressure across the filter
- Repeated failed regeneration with no melted core
- Soot loading after short journeys or unresolved faults
- Cleaning alongside pressure sensor, pipe or temperature repairs
Not every filter should be cleaned
If the core is cracked, melted, oil-soaked or at ash capacity, renewal may be more reliable than cleaning.
Cleaning is part of the repair, not a shortcut
A clean filter can block again if the vehicle still has the same upstream issue.
